Terms of reference

The Government has decided that the work of the Inspectorate in 2003 should have the following aims:

To provide an efficient and active licensing, inspection and information services, with a view to

  • facilitating the exploration and exploitation of mineral substances, mainly ores, in accordance with the Minerals Act,

  • preventing mismanagement,

  • promoting ecologically balanced exploitation of Sweden's mineral resources, and

  • preventing people and property from being injured or damaged by mining operations.

Operating mines are to be inspected at least once a year.
