The Mining Inspectorate of Sweden (Bergsstaten) is the official body in Sweden responsible for issuing permits for

  • prospecting – exploration permits
  • mines – exploitation concessions

The Mining Inspectorate also carries out inspections of mines and provides information. It is headed by the Chief Mining Inspector.

The Mining Inspectorate has two offices. The Head Office in Luleå handles mine affairs for the counties of Norrbotten, Västerbotten, Jämtland and Västernorrland, while the Falun office is responsible for all the other counties of Sweden.
